Sketching collages

What lead to the compositions creation was a direct response to the digital collages. Ocean waves in form of harsh cut out shapes decorated with rigid black lines created by digital tools. Applying the same process using pencil and paints, these sketch collages have been created based upon the shape of paper cut outs.

Over the course of this residency there are two main themes burning through out the work, collage and color. No matter the form, intent, the work is always adding a color description far removed from the reality of informations origins. These sketches have no specific link to the Bell Library, rather they are just sketches & different working styles inspired by the work. How to introduce this technique to working with historic collections is the next challenge.
