Responce to a challenge by Tim Vickery c2017, to create a composition based on a Bahia football match.

Taking sketch books to sporting venues started after I was presented with a stark choice. Either pay a local arts community group £20 to enter a one hour single life drawing session, or for the same fee watch Charlton FC? Life drawing was an opportunity to push & practice my drawing skills, yet I didn’t see how spending one hour in a single venue would be of a long term benefit. Where as visiting Charlton I could draw on the train, make notes, eat local fish & chips, really embrace the match day experience. What started as a choice became a bit of an obsession, now when visiting any sporting venues I tend to adsorb myself within a sketch book recording anything noteworthy. Does it even need to be my own experience? The media documentation of historic or current sports events is more than suitable for collaging.
